Hurley Pro Highlights

Some highlights from the Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles. Waves were firing on the last day and all the title contenders were in the mix. Slater's surfing is on another level. I was hoping John John would take out the event but he John John lost to Adrian De Souza in the quarterfinals. He fell on a wave that he should have lit up for a high score and it cost him.

Signs of Life on the South Shore ~ Beach Park ~ September 19th 2012

My camera and housing had been sitting around getting dusty for more than a month. Finally got it back in the soup and snapped some pictures. I hit the Beach Park between 7:30am and 10:00am. The tide was just coming off a fat high, making the waves a bit soft. There were still some fun 2 footers and a few 3 footers later on as the tide dropped out. Glassy to light off shore.

Ready or not, Winter cometh...

Sorry for the lack of updates. Word in the lineup is worst summer ever, so that's my excuse. They say good things come to those who wait. North swells and Football are two of those good things and they be knocking on our door. Giants and Cowboys on Wednesday and a fun looking Northwest swell on Friday / Saturday.

Kaisers and the Dog Days of Summer ~ July 31st 2012

Town had some head high waves today. Bigger than it has been and bigger than it's forecast to be for the next week or so. Shot Kaisers from 12noon to 1:30pm. There were some nice bowly ones. It's been a pretty sad summer for waves. It feels like we're smack dab in the middle of the summer swell doldrums.

There's been a sneaky head high swell in town the last couple days. Shot Bowls this morning from 8am to 10am. Waves were consistent and the crowd was pretty chill. I was planning on shooting Kaisers but Bowls seemed to be pulling the swell in much better. The lights not perfect for Bowls in the morning, looking into the rising sun on some shots. It's kinda got an artsy back lit thing going on though. The wind started getting a little funky onshore around 9:15am.

Daily Slop ~ Monday, July 16th 2012

Haven't gotten the camera over to town recently. The surfs actually been pretty fun. Consistent 2 feet with the occasional head high set. Ran across this video of the mega swell in Teahupoo last year. I never actually saw this particular edit. Mind blowing. For best effect - load it in 720p.

Daily Slop ~ Tuesday, July 10th 2012

Had a chance to go through the pictures from the last swell and put some of the best shots together: Bowls, Beach Park and Threes. Not a whole lot cooking in the way of southern hemi south swells. Looks like Hurricane Daniel is sending some pretty colors our way in the next few days. We'll see what that translates to in the surf department.

Friday - Surfed Threes for a couple of hours in the morning. It was pretty slow. I wasn't gonna take pictures but figured I'd chance em. Glad I did because it turned on for a while. Had about 45 minutes there where it was pumping, 2-3 feet, stiff offshore. Crowd was on the thin side and everyone was getting some. Took pictures from 11:45am to 1:45pm.

Thursday - Beach park was cranking in the morning. 3 to 4 feet with a couple bigger ones like the one above. Took pictures from 7:30am to 9:00am. Waves were super consistent by South Shore standards.

Shot Bowls between 2:00pm and 4:00pm. Waves were about 3 to 4 feet and consistent. Surprisingly only 20 guys out most the session. Everyone must have been too busy manning their BBQs. Winds were cranking pretty hard side off shore in the beginning and then mellowing out.
